As far as I know, it is a stupid literal reading of Sun Tzu, where it is said that an army that marches 10,000li is tired (or something like that, I read it a few years back).
Point is, even then it was intended as “a very long distance”, not as “literally marching 10,000 li”.
I wonder how it is that this was ever taken literally in the first place!

I didn't know this, I thought it was from the Malcolm Gladwell's book.
Anyway, the principle holds: The world and your role changes more often than "a very long time" or "10,000 hours".
